You can tell its the FOMT versions because Karen has her blonde bangs (unlike her DS counterpart). There are more farm animals to obtain, pets come in two colors, and you can befriend wild animals. The game dials back the Heart Events to 4 (instead of 96 different versions like Island of Happiness), however in their place are 30 new events involving various NPC characters. In terms of gameplay, Sunshine Islands doesn't require touch-screen controls like Island of Happiness did. The game includes two new love interests: Will and Lily. It features the same characters and designs but a different scenario, some new characters, and some other additions. Sunshine Islands is very similar to Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness. With the help of the Harvest Sprites, the protagonist is tasked to find the mystical Sun Stones to raise the sunken islands and restore the archipelago to its former glory. In the distant past, an earthquake caused most of the Sunshine Islands to sink into the ocean. The game starts with the protagonist moving to Ranch Island, one of many islands of the titular Sunshine Islands archipelago, to start their life as a farmer.
